Question sources & licenses
Our quiz mixes compact questions from Open Trivia DB with original questions researched from museums, universities and public science organisations, alongside factual references for our 1980s and 1990s nostalgia and broader cultural questions.
- Open Trivia Database, by its contributors and PIXELTAIL GAMES LLC, is used under Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 4.0. We obtained a pinned snapshot through an OpenTDB mirror. Adaptations include text decoding, whitespace cleanup, filtering, deduplication, option ordering, documented wording/distractor corrections and mixed question rotation.
- We also evaluated OpenTriviaQA by uberspot and contributors (CC BY-SA 4.0). Its candidate questions are quarantined pending further verification and are not used in play.
- Our adaptations of the imported question collections, and any rights we hold in the assembled bank’s selection, arrangement and database, are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. This does not automatically relicense separately authored original questions, app code or brand assets. No additional restrictive reuse terms or DRM are imposed on the licensed content. These sources do not endorse this game. Imported questions have automated checks and spot reviews; individual answers may still need correction. Use the question’s report control if something looks wrong.
- Original additions use factual references from institutions including NASA, NOAA, museums and universities. Public access to these reference pages does not imply an open license to their articles. We wrote new prompts and explanations and did not copy their images. Nostalgia questions identify historical products, films, television and music; source articles, scripts, song lyrics and media are not reproduced.
- Seventeen language questions adapt lexical facts from Wiktionary contributors under CC BY-SA 4.0. We rewrote definitions as questions and added answer choices and examples. Contributor attribution and histories are available through the source entries: aptronym, backronym, brother, brunch, calque, cognate, diacritic, eponym, interrobang, ligature, malapropism, portmanteau, retronym, schwa, susurrus, synecdoche, tittle. These adaptations are also licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0.
- Country silhouettes use Natural Earth map data, which is public domain. Flag illustrations are drawn locally.
